AAUW and Suffrage
The Association of Collegiate Alumnae (ACA), the predecessor of American Association of University Women [AAUW] began its organizational support of the Suffrage movement in 1915 though individual members were actively involved before then. Anna Kelton Wiley, Maud Wood Park, Katharine Houghton Hepburn and Lorena King Hepburn were among the many who fought and suffered for voting rights. Continuing their history AAUW, nationally and locally, and its members have been involved in educating members and others about the importance of voting, supporting voting rights, promoting “get-out-the-vote” efforts and events; and advocating women’s issues.
Voting is the right and responsibility of every adult citizen.
It is the price we pay for Democracy.
